## Working Memory Challenge

Hint: Begin with Line 1 to give you a clue as to the value of the cats.

How?
(Watch out for the the multiplication sign)
Line 1: ? x ? + 1 = 17 And so ? x ? must equal 16. 4 x 4 = 16 so that cat = 4

4 x ? x ? = 36
We know the Cat = 4, so the Mouse must = 3
4 x 3 x 6 = 72 (3 cheeses)
So 4 – 3 + 2 = 3

## You have 4 answers to choose from.

How many 5s are there between 1 and 70?

### (c) 17

Before Mt. Everest was discovered, what was the highest mountain in the world?

## Which fits the pattern?

Option F
( Note the way the patterns move in sequence)

## Find the missing letters

There is a three-letter sequence missing from each of these words. What is it?  M E N

## Which is the correct answer?

Tip: Remember the Bodmas rule

3-3×0+3/3.

After we eliminate the Brackets step (there aren’t any) , then the Orders step (there are none in this problem), we are left with division/ multiplication.
Because we have both division and multiplication in the problem, we just do these operations as we read the problem….from left to right (like reading a book).
So:
-3 x0 =0
+3/3 =+1
3+0+1
This equals 4.

(Gillian’s apologies to those who puzzled over the previously posted answer – Reader David S. brought the error to our attention. Thank you, David!)

## Use your nonverbal and coordination skills.

Did you enjoy trying to do this? The results don’t matter, really, unless you love completing a beautiful finished piece of art.

What matters is activating those often unused neural pathways.

## Spot the different Crown.

Too easy? We will give you a harder one next time!
